Pai is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains, jungle, hot springs, Shan and Chinese Villages, waterfalls and rice paddies.  Pai is unique in both it’s terrain and culture, being famous for its relaxing atmosphere that includes free availability of Magic Mushrooms and Marijuana.  Pai is considerably cheaper to stay than Bangkok or Phuket which makes it a haven for budget travelers.

Pai town is very relaxed and slow paced;  there are no movie houses, supermarkets or department stores.  For this reason many talented expats choose Pai as a place to live which has created an amazing variety of excellent restaurants and food choices. Getting your meals from the famous Pai Walking Street from a variety of vendors, then sitting and eating while making new friends is the essence of Pai, Mae Hong Son

Pai attracts Muay Thai fighters who want to train & relax and prefer a slower pace than city or Island Muay Thai Gyms. The Pai Muay Thai Gym scene is not as intense a level of training in Bangkok or southern Thailand. You are more likely to find fighters who are at the beginning of their careers wanting to get quality training and not be neglected at the expense of gyms catering to their superstars.  There are still some great gyms for fighters of all levels to train in the most chilled town in Thailand.

Below are some of the best Muay Thai gyms in Pai that you should check out!  Pai is also home to the incredible Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat. Nam Yang is a beautiful campus teaching traditional Chinese Martial Arts.

Sak Yant Tattoos for Muay Thai Tattoo Combinations

Because different Sak Yant designs for fighters represent different meanings, it is not uncommon for a MMA fighter to have a variety of Sak Yant Tattoos. Sak Yants have been designed over many hundreds of years to work together and as such the designs can merge seamlessly into each other creating an overall design.

Traditionally getting a MMA Sak Yant Tattoo is done as the fighter feels they are required to enhance their fighting ability and quality of life.  Now days as Mixed Martial Artists come to Thailand and train in Muay Thai, many fighters choose to get a few Sak Yants at the same time while they are here and able to obtain the real Sak Yant.

Real Sak Yant Tattoos for Fighters are applied by Sak Yant Masters (Not Tattoo Artists) who will chant magical spells during the application of the design and provide a Blessing at the end of the experience. Because the Sak Yant Masters first and primary skill is a knowledge of magic and spells, a true Sak Yant Tattoo (with real magical text included) will often times not have the clean and artistic lines that a fake provided by a Tattoo artist might.  For many MMA and Muay Thai fighters, this is a testament to the purity of the art and profession as a fighter, and makes the time and effort to obtain the real thing an important part of their training and life.
